Dr. SaadSaad is a man whose career was inspired by a rather traumatic experience. He had gone to work in a construction site in the company of his brother when he suffered a heat stroke during the summer in Kuwait. The heat in this part of the world is known to sometimes hike to highs of over 110°F. When he considered his choice of career, he dreamt of working in a comfortable environment, and this episode motivated him to become a surgeon, so he could work in operating rooms which are air conditioned all the time. Dr. SaadSaad had relocated to Kuwait from Palestine after the creation of the State of Israel which forced the relocation of native Palestinians. Here, his father taught and encouraged him to seek a good education so he could pursue a respectable career which would give him a sense of belonging as they were refugees.
Dr. SaadSaad adopted a habit of not procrastinating, one that has seen him become one of the most renowned pediatric surgeons in the United States. He became the first US Board Certified pediatric surgeon fluent in English and Arabic in mid 1980s, further opening doors for him to achieve unique and prestigious positions. He, for example, served as the pediatric surgeon for the Saudi Royal Family children, and was the one preferred to perform complex pediatric surgery for Saudi Arabian children until 1989. He has in his career, made unique innovations, and has patented two inventions. One of these is a procedure he came up with in a bid to reduce pain during surgery. It eliminates previously needed second incisions, this way significantly reducing pain. Dr. SaadSaad has successfully employed this procedure on children over two thousand times.
Dr. SaadSaad says that his biggest advice to young people is to always chase their goals, and have immense faith in the journey, citing his success as a Palestinian refugee in America as proof. Dr. SaadSaad is one of the most successful pediatric surgeons, with forty two years of experience. He is licensed by the New Jersey State up to 2019, as well as Iowa State, active until 2013. He has also received several honors and awards among them, AAP and ACS Fellow, and in 2014 received Vitals Patient’s Choice Award, and the Compassionate Doctor Recognition.
Until retiring, Dr. SaadSaad was Co Medical Director, Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. He has been affiliated with several hospitals like Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Clara Maass Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center among others.
